Purpose and Goals of Program The four major purposes of the program
are as follows: - Honor
persons who have made a major contribution to the growth and development of Masters
Swimming.

an open forum for people to express their thoughts in a non-threatening environment
regarding

Benefits of being involved in Masters Swimming
- The
potential future of Masters Swimming
- Provide
a meeting of Masters Pioneers and other interested persons.

Who are the Pioneers The dictionary defines pioneers as people who
venture into unknown or unclaimed territory. Also, innovators, especially in research
and development. Masters Swimming Pioneers are people who have been involved in
the development of Masters Swimming. Those who have helped to grow, promote and
develop the program that now exists! 3.
The Growing Numbers of Masters Swimming Pioneers The original group
of our Masters Swimming Pioneers consists of the thirteen people who have Awards
named in their honor, plush Ransom Arthur who is known as "The Father of
Masters Swimming." The twelve people who received the 2005 awards were also
named Masters Swimming Pioneers. So, as of April 15, 2005 there are a total of
26, fourteen original Pioneers plus the twelve named on January 8, 2005 equals
a total of 26. As of August 4, 2006, the number will grow by 12 more people to
38 Masters Swimming Pioneers. 4.
Organization of the Masters Swimming Pioneer Program The Program
was established in November, 2005. Judge Robert Beach came up with the original
idea and John R. Spannuth added the meat to the bones! The program was designed
by and is sponsored, promoted and maintained by the United States Water Fitness
Association of Boynton Beach, Florida (a non-profit educational organization founded
by John R. Spannuth in 1988). 5.
Selection of Pioneer Award Winners The Selection Committee consists
of the living Masters Swimming Pioneers. Special Note - Persons who have been
selected as a Pioneer are not eligible to be selected in another Pioneer Category. 6.
How People are Nominated for One or More of the Pioneer Awards Nominations
shall be submitted to the Chairperson (John R. Spannuth) in writing listing the
following: Name
of person being nominated. Award(s) the person is being nominated for.
Information regarding how the person qualifies for the award. the nominee's
mailing address, telephone number, fax number, email address and any other information
that would be of help to contact the person. Information regarding the person
who is nominating the nominee. Including name, mailing address, telephone number,
fax number, email address and any other information that would be of help to contact

Selection of the 2009 Award Winners The closing date for nominations
for the 2009 Awards is Friday, September 25 , 2009 at noon. 8.
Masters Swimming Pioneer Executive Committee The Executive Committee
is appointed by the President of USWFA. The Committee now consists of John R.
Spannuth (Chairperson), Judge Robert Beach (Vice Chairperson), June Krauser and
Carl House. For
